Acceptable
File Formats and Media
The native
application files for the above software are supported as well as these file
types:?.eps, .tif, Postscript (.PS), and .pdf.
Accepted media include, but not limited to: ZIP, CD, DVD-R and Floppy Disks.
Ave
Maria Press will also accept your digital file(s) through an email attachment
(a size limit of 50 MB is asked). Please "stuff" (.sit file with StuffIt!) your files before sending. Electronic
File Layout
Create
all document pages to the final page size. Do not include the bleed in the
document size.
Extend
images that are positioned at the edge of a page 1/8" further onto the
pasteboard for bleed.
Always
build documents as single pages. Do not create a page size to include a two
page spread.
Keep
an original set of your files. Only send copies to Ave Maria Press.
Fonts
Provide
Ave Maria Press with both your screen and printer fonts that are used in your
file. Postscript Type-1 fonts are preferred, but we will accept TrueType fonts
also.
Avoid
manually stylizing or "Menu" altering your fonts (i.e. menu bolding). Use fonts
with native bold and/or italic versions. Otherwise, unpredicted results may
occur.
Wherever
possible, create outline (vectored) fonts. This transforms type into artwork
eliminating type inherent problems. Images
Save
all graphics as .tif or .eps.
Be sure to include all the files (links) placed in your layout. The
scan resolution of your images should reflect the following formula:
For
photos, the resolution should be 2 X the printed line screen. For example, if the file is to be printed at 150 line screen
(screen ruling), the photo should be scanned at final size and 300 ppi (pixel per inch). Avoid enlarging linked images
after they are placed in your document. Doing so will decrease the actual scan resolution.
For
line art, the object should be scanned at final size and 1200 ppi. and saved as a .tif. Rotate
and crop your images/graphics in the original graphic application before
placing it into your page document.
The
experts here at Ave Maria Press are available to scan your original art or
transparencies for you. Our Scitex scanner is capable
of reflective copy up to 12" x 18". Colors
When
using Pantone (PMS) or custom spot colors, ensure that all color names are
consistent, otherwise same colors named differently will output as separate
colors (e.g. named colors as "PMS 305" and "PANTONE 305" will output as two
separate spot colors). If
your document is four-color (CMYK) process, be sure to convert all spot colors
to process. If you scan your own color photos, be aware that most lower-end
scanners, and digital cameras, produce RGB color-spaced files. RGB color files
are unusable for quality printing and must be converted to four-color process
(Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black).
